Once (during the Konbaung dynasty in the 18th and 19th centuries) a capital of Myanmar (now Mandalay ) is now township of Mandalay. On the west its bounded by Ayeyarwady river, on the north by Chanmyathazi township and finaly on the south by the city of Innwa. In a Middle Indo-Aryan language or prakrit of India the city is called "City of Immortality".

Amarapura, Myanmar is a city inside the Mandalay division; also called the "city of immortality". It is located on the left bank of the Ayarwaddy River. From Mandalay central, Amapura can be reach via a car ride. It was before, the capital of Myanmar back in 1841-1854 during the reign of King Mindon. The city is known for its weaving industry. Most of the residents in Amarapura today still consider weaving as their source of living.

There are a number of interesting places in Amarapura which tourists and travelers love to visit. The city is known throughout the world for its captivating beauty like the other cities of Myanmar.

Here are some of the best places to visit in Amarapura:

•    U-Bein's bridge - a 1.2 kilometer bridge, considered as the world's longest "teak" bridge, which is a tropical hard wood tree found mostly in Southeast Asia. It was constructed in the year 1849, and took almost two years to finish. The bridge was named after its donor, U Bein, who was then a clerk to the Amarapura's Mayor. It is still being used today by the Amanapura people and had been visited by many foreign travelers. The bridge has a total of 1086 posts and 482 spans. It is considered as the pride of the Amanapuras.

•    Pahtodawgyi Pagoda - located at the southern part of Amarapura, built during the reign of King Bagyidaw in the year 1820, and was completely finished after four years. The pagoda is officially called today as the "Maha Vijayaramsi". Visitors can have a beautiful view of the surrounding villages along the terraces above the pagoda. Details of the pagoda's history and construction can be read from a stone inscription laid within the temple.

•    Bagaya Kyaung monastery - built during the reign of King Bagyidaw, in the year 1834, made completely of teak wood posts. Considered as the tallest post ever built with the height of around 60 feet, this monastery holds Myanmar's ancient architecture and other historical relics of its renowned country. Bagaya Kyaung monastery has a unique decorative feature which will enlighten everyone about how artistic and creative the Myanmar people are. Visitors can also have a glimpse of the monks' way of living and learn about their beliefs and traditions, which the Myanmars very well preserve.
