It was year 1350 when King U-Thong founded this city, while escaping a disease outbreak called smallpox. He then proclaimed it as capital of his kingdom. The name came from the city of Ayodhya in India, where Rama (also Ramachandra, a legendary king of Ayodhya in ancient India, and the seventh avatar of Vishnu in Hinduism) was born.
