Situated in the midst of the Julian Alps, Bohinj is a Slovenia town that, although small, is not to be forgotten. Despite only having five thousand people reside in this landscapers paradise, people from all around flock here for the largest feature present: The Bohinj Lake. In fact, it has become a tourist hot spot, and a place for locals to vacation. Tracing back to the Bronze Age, Bohinj encompasses most of the Bohinj Valley, and is partially bordered by the Lower Bohinj Mountain Range. While here, you should be aware that due to it's relative isolation, residents of the town have a distinct dialect that is all their own, and quite different from other areas of Slovenia.
Regardless of the small population, you should plan to spend at least several days here if you want to take advantage of all the Bohinj has to offer. Beautiful mountain ranges would thrill even the most seasoned climber, with Mt. Triglav being the biggest feat. But, for starters, you should consider a boat ride around Bohinj Lake, as the guides reveal many tourist attractions in three different languages along the way. However, if you prefer to stay on dry land, and are looking for the best views, a ride via cable car to Mount Vogel is definitely in order. The third steepest route in all of Europe, those brave enough can cram in 79 of their closest friends to take advantage of some unbelievable scenery. And as long as you're up there, you might as well take a look at the country's breath-taking and largest waterfall, Savica.
If you happen to be traveling to this town during the winter months, you will not be disappointed. Running rampant with skiers and snowboarders alike, they cannot outshine those wanting to leisurely ice skate across the frozen lake.
Known for their hospitable service, Don Andro's is both affordable, and delectable. They serve an Italian fare, with service their biggest priority. A few others to vary the palate include the Penzion Rozic, The Penzion Krystal, and the Penzion Resje. Perhaps none come more widely recommended, however, than the Restaurant Rupa. Near the foot of the Bohinj Lake, this establishment is the epitome of culinary quality mixed with impeccable value.

As part of Slovenia, Bohinj is a small town closest to the Austrian border. Also in a country surrounded by Italy, Hungary, and Croatia, this town within is comprised of both waterways and mountain ranges. You can travel by car, train, bus, or plane, and you will experience all the seasons if you stay long enough. At 523 meters above sea level, Bohinj is susceptible to similar weather patterns of the Midwest United States. With cold, snowy winters followed by the pleasant spring, the hottest months are July and August, where it is ideal to take a dip in the lake that averages 22 degrees Celsius at that time. During the summer months, the temperature stays around 23C, and drops to a frigid 1C during the winter.
