Introducing this place:
Located about 105 miles from Rio de Janeiro, is the peninsula of Buzios. It is a very pleasant two hour trip from Rio. Beaches as well as crystal clear water attract many visitors to this part of the world. Buzios was christened in an interesting way. Back in the 1960’s Brigitte Bardot, paid a visit to this part of the world with her Brazilian boyfriend. Ms. Bardot helped put Buzios on the map.
Sightseeing:
The beaches around Buzios are pretty cool. Here’s a list of beaches that you can visit or rather sight see:
- Azeda beach can be accessed by walking. One can start on the right side of Praia dos Ossos. The beach covers an area of roughly 300 meters.
- Azedinha beach is pretty close to Azeda and is more quiet beach.
- Brava beach is not that much popular because of it’s waves. Here, rocky cliffs and vegetation surround the entire beach.
- Canto beach is about 1500 meters in length and is situated right at the heart of Buzios. This is a pretty busy beach due to it’s proximity to the bars, inns and summer houses.
- Caravelas beach is small, beautiful and full of clear sand. The beach das Caravelas has access through the Buzios Mega resort at Km.12 of the league Buzios route. This is a pretty cool beach to be in.
Things and Sports to Do:
There is something for everyone in Buzios. Buzios offers a wide range of attractions for the tourists.
- There are about two dozen beaches in Buzios. So you should be able to pick one and chill out on the beach. Maybe set up your hammock and read your favorite novel under the sun.
- You can also wander away on the main street of Rua Das Pedras.
- On the north side, you can take to one of the beaches with a little help from the water taxi that costs a couple of dollars at the most.
- Take a Catamaran tour to one of these beaches around Buzios. The catamaran tour is probably the safest and securest way to travel to one of these beaches. The price per adult is 51 dollars i.e. in USD. The meeting point will surely be indicated on the voucher. That is your pick up point. The Catamaran departs daily.
- The Buzios trolley is there to take you to twelve beaches and two belvederes. The tourist will most definitely be delighted to ride in the Buzios trolley. The duration of the trolley tour is 14.3 hours and the meeting point will be indicated on the voucher itself. Once again, that will be your pick up point. The trolley is completely open and provides the tourists with frameless views of the surrounding areas. On board the trolley you will be served with juices, mineral water, biscuits and tropical fruits. The season for this trolley ride is between January through July.
- Buzios lets you scuba dive as well. A boat will take you to Joao Fernandinho beach. This particular beach is famous for it’s scenery and the calm crystal clear waters. It should take about 30 minutes for you to get there. The guides on board will provide you with equipments and instruction. You will be able to dive for about 30 minutes only. During this entire 30 minutes you will be oriented and guided as well. The cost of scuba diving is 215 USD only.
Restaurants and Shopping:
Buzios offers plenty of fine dining options. The Buzin restaurant offers South American cuisine and is located around town. The Estancia Don Juan offers steaks and pork chops. The Patio Havana offers an international cuisine to it’s customers. The Sawasdee offers Pacific Rim or rather Asian cuisine to it’s customers. Most of these restaurants are affordable in nature. A typical breakfast here would start with pousada, buffet style, at Casa Brancas. The breakfast usually consists of freshly squeezed orange juice, coffee to wake you up, and fruits like mango, and papaya. Sopping is pretty cool around here. One should be able to find artezanato store here. Buzios provides unique places to shop for. As you walk down the Rua des Pedras, you should be able to find plenty of things to shop for.
Geography and Climate:
The peninsula of Buzios extends for about 8 kms. Ocean currents from Antarctica and Brazil influence it’s climate. The North of Buzios, the beaches are calmer and waters are warm while in the South, beaches are mostly open and colder like the Geriba and Tucuns. Some bays in this peninsula have a weird geography since they look like islands. The Ferradura and Forno are just a couple of examples of such bays. The average annual temperature is about 25 degree centigrade. In summer it usually reaches around 29 degree centigrade. In winter the average maximum drops to about 19 degree centigrade. The probability of rain is extremely low between April to September. The probability is high between November and March.
Economy, Prices and Living Standard:
The real estate business in Buzios is flourishing quite a bit. The real estate business here in Buzios and through out Brazil is highly inflated. A same size house as little as 20 miles away can cost a third of the price. An interesting fact about the economy here is that the Brazilian government has made it easy for foreigners to buy property in this part of the world. So, one should be able to buy a luxury villa or a beach resort here pretty easily. Also, the Buzios real estate is not only limited to the condos and villas. Office spaces as well as commercial real estate are also up for sale here. The prices of living here is pretty high. This is mostly a resort kind of town where people come to party it up. Very few people have permanent residences around here. Once the party season is over, Buzios becomes a quite town of only about 25,000 people. The funny thing is that the number of residents in Buzios sky rockets to about 100,000 during peak seasons.
