Dubai is one of the most popular cities in the Arab world. It is the part of United Arab Emirates and lies in the Persian Gulf’s southern coast. This lavish city stands on Arabian Peninsula overseeing a vast coastal area. Dubai is the most populated city is UAE and is only the second biggest city in the country.

This city is financially and economically very important for UAE as its geographical situation has made it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Thanks to the tourism industry, real estate in this city has also flourished and the city boasts of some of the most lavish hotels and shopping malls in the world.

Sightseeing:

  • Al Ahmadiya School: This was the first school in Dubai that was established in 1912. This ancient building exhibits things used in the school like old pens, slates, books etc. The architecture of this building is also quite interesting.
  • Jumeirah Mosque: This is probably the most beautiful mosque in the entire Gulf region. The great carving and intricate styling has made it a favorite among tourists from all over the world. This mosque is open for people of all religions.
  • Burj Dubai – Nobody can miss this gigantic structure near the coast of Dubai. This is a huge building that is still in construction, but it is already tallest structure in the world.
  • Palm Islands: This is the world’s biggest man-made island in the world. Visible from the space, this island lies on the coast of Dubai and is spread in a shape of a Palm leaf. Still under construction, this is one of the biggest construction projects ever in the world. The island will house biggest dignitaries of the world and will also have many restaurant, clubs, shopping malls, hotels etc.

Things and Sports to Do:

  • Beach: Dubai has a beautiful coast line which provides some of the best beach experiences. Many high range hotels provide their own private beaches to their guests. But if you are not staying in such hotels, then you can enjoy at a public beach. The weather is perfect and water never gets too cold to swim. You will never want to leave the beaches in Dubai.
  • Desert Safari: Take an exciting trip in a big SUV with a specialist driver who will drive you to the nearby desert for a roller coaster ride on the huge sand dunes. Riding the tall sand dunes in a huge SUV that threatens to topple over any second is an exhilarating experience.
  • Wild Wadi - Located near Jumeriah Hotel, Wild Wadi is a great water park. Suitable for all ages, this water park provides a welcome relief from the scorching desert sun. The park has many exciting water based rides.
  • Golfing: There is a huge golf course which is unbelievably green in this predominantly desert city. A lot of water and money is spent on creating and maintaining this golf course.

Restaurants and Shopping:

If there is one thing in Dubai that has made it what it is, then it has to Shopping. People from all over the world come here to shop in Dubai. You can find anything in world in the various shopping malls, stores and boutiques of this city. There are huge malls all over the city selling biggest brands of clothes, jewellery, accessories, etc.

You will also find many traditional markets called souks which are held in various streets of the city. These markets are a great place to find antique and traditional items. But don’t forget to haggle. Dubai also organizes the world’s biggest shopping festival called the Dubai Shopping Festival which offers incredible discounts and offers to shoppers

Being a primarily tourism based economy; Dubai has all the international fast food brands like McDonalds, Starbucks and KFC. You must sample some great Arabian Street foods. These are the most delicious and cheapest food available in the market. For those who like fine-dining, there are hundreds of luxury restaurants available in Dubai.

People and Culture:

Dubai has a multicultural population with people from India, Iran, Iraq and other Gulf countries. People from this city are much more modern and open minded and believe in progress. Even though, you will still see many people wearing traditional Arab and Islamic clothes, there is still a lot of cultural freedoms given in Dubai which you won’t find in most Muslim countries.

Dubai is also diverse in language, cuisine and religions. Even though Arabic is the main language and Islam is the main religion of the city, people from other religions like Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism live here also and speak many different languages.

Geography and Climate:

Dubai lies on the coast of Persian Gulf coast at 25 degrees 16′11″N, 55 degrees 18′34″E. It spread in an area of 4,114 sq. km. The city is established near a huge desert and a vast sea port. These two distinct aspects have made this city different from most other Arab cities.

The climate of Dubai is mostly hot and dry. It gets around 6 inches of rains every year only. During summers, temperature easily crosses over 40 degrees C with little or no rains for most of the summer period. Winter months of December to February see some drop in the temperature due to regular rainfall during this period. These months may sometimes sea very heavy rains and night temperature may even fall below 10 degrees C.

Economy, Prices and Living Standard:

The economy of Dubai is based on its oil industry, huge ports, and tourism and construction businesses. The city has huge stock of oil and natural gas. Dubai contributes 6% of all the revenues collected by UAE on oil and gas sales.

The city also has a huge port which has become a gateway to almost every import to various countries in South-East Asia. Due to various ambitious construction projects in the city, the construction business has also become very strong in the city.

Tourism is the back bone of the economy of this city as most hotels, restaurants, malls etc. depend on influx of foreign tourists for their business. Tourism has also contributed towards the uplifting the locals in this city as it gives employment to thousands of people.

The standards of living are very high in this city and even the lowest grade employees earn good income to sustain a healthy and happy life.
