Located on the coast of Gulf of Thailand, Pattaya is famous resort Thailand. Lying around 150 km away from Bangkok, Pattaya was rather infamous in the western world as a place where adult bars and prostitution was widely prevalent. But in the last few years, Pattaya has transformed its image in the world and is now seen as a safe and family friendly destination.
The condition of beaches in the city has also improved a lot and they are now much tourist friendly. The best part of this enchanting city is its beautiful accommodation option in the form of various beach resorts and hotels.
Sightseeing:
Khao Phra Tam Nak: Located in the Southern part of Pattaya, this tiny hill provides an enchanting view of the entire city and its bay. This peak also has the memorial of Wat Khao Phra Bat who is believed to be the founder of Thai Navy. There is also a fitness park at the base of this mountain that is spread over an area of 6 acres. This park offers amazing natural beauty and has many jogging trails which go through enchanting greenery.
Bottle Art Museum: This is a small and very unusual museum located on Sukhumvit Road. This museum exhibits elaborated designs crafted on glass bottles. These bottles are created by Peter Bedelais who is a Dutch artist.
Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum: Located in the Royal Garden Plaza, this museum exhibits various unbelievable items from all over the world. There is also a horror show, an infinity maze game and a 4D movie theatre where you can have an exciting and unusual experience.
Buddha Hill: This is a tall summit with a giant Buddha Statue on it. This summit is one of the highest places in the city and thus provides a panoramic view of the city. There is also a Chinese religious place around this hill.Things and Sports to Do:
Beaches: Pattaya, like any other tourist destination in Thailand, is famous for its beautiful beaches. There is a 3km long beach in the city which attracts many tourists. There are many hotels, eateries and shopping centers near this beach. The road near this beach attracts many street performers in the night and creates a unique environment. Besides this, Jomtien Beach is also very beautiful. It is much calmer than the Pattaya beach. You can also go to the Wong Phrachan beach which lies near Jomtien Beach.
Theatres: Even though there are no live performance theatres in Pattaya, but if you are a movie buff then you can catch a Thai or English movie in one of the many multiplexes in the city.
Massage: Pattaya is famous for its massage parlors where you can get a relaxing oil massage and unwind after a long journey or a long day of sightseeing. But beware; there are some illegal massage parlors in the city also which are strictly for “adults”. Never, ever enter in such parlors.
Adventure Sports: Pattaya offers great opportunities for adventure sports lovers. You can go for paragliding, bungee jumping, jet skiing, scuba diving, sky diving, parasailing, hot air ballooning etc. There are many agencies which take tourists on such tours.
Play Games: Pattaya offers various Golf courses, tennis courts and pool parlors where you can spend some quality time with your friends. You can also go bowling or to an arcade to play some of the latest video games. This is the best way to pass time in Pattaya.Restaurants and Shopping:
Pattaya is a great place to shop for some authentic Thai products. There are loads of street markets, shopping malls and stores which provide good items in various price brackets. But do not buy electronic items in this city as they are sold at a much higher price than in other countries.
Central Festival Mall, Mike Shopping Mall, P.S. Plaza and Royal Garden Plaza are some of the best malls in the city. But if you want to do some street shopping, then go to the Thepprasit Market, Soi Buakhao Market, and The Market Pattaya where you can find some great deals.
Pattaya has many eateries and restaurant which provide good, hygienic and tasty foods which suit all kinds of pockets. If you want something fast and cheap to it, then go to any of the various street food stalls that are available all over the city. There are many nice restaurants like the Bier-Kutsche German Restaurant, Cool Kitchen, Benihana, The Green Bottle and Manhattan Steakhouse etc. which come under mid range to expensive price categories.
People and Culture:
The people from Pattaya have a lot of believe in Thai culture and traditions. They respect their seniors and address them as Pee. Thai society is much more conservative than western societies. Public display of affection is frowned and you must talk to everyone with respect. Buddhism is a great part of Thai culture and you will find some monasteries and monks in Pattaya also.Geography and Climate:
Pattaya lies near Gulf of Thailand and is bordered by the Bang Lamung District. Pattaya lies along the Banglamung coast. The city is divided into three areas. Out of which Northern part of the city which includes Naklua Beach and Pattaya Beach is the biggest one.

Prices in this city are same as anywhere else in Thailand, but beware while shopping as many people try to cheat foreigners.
