One of the most popular holiday destinations in the world, Rio de Janeiro is one of the biggest cities in the South American country of Brazil. It used to be the capital city of the country until 1960. World famous for its carnival culture, beautiful beaches and great hotels, Rio de Janeiro is considered one of the best places to visit along the coasts of Atlantic.

- Christ the Redeemer- This huge statue of Jesus Christ is the symbol of Rio de Janeiro. Stating on a 2300 feet high mountain, this is a true architectural marvel.
- Pão de Açúcar – These are two mountains also known as the Sugar Loaf Mountains. You can take the tramway to the peaks and observe the mesmerizing views.
- Paço Imperial: Built in 1743, this Imperial Palace is rich in beautiful colonial architecture.
- Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas – This one is a huge lagoon that provides some fantastic scenes towards Corcovado and Leblon beaches. You can also skate and jog in the fields surrounding this lagoon.

Geography and Climate:
Lying at the 22 degrees 54˝ Latitude and 43 degrees 12˝Longitude, Rio de Janeiro is spread in a total area of around 1,182 sq. km. The city has many mountains and a long coastal line that is allocated on the coast of Atlantic.
The climate of Rio de Janeiro is tropical. The climate remains warm and humid through out the year. During winter time, temperature remains above 15 degrees C , and in summer time, the temperature remains around 35 degrees C to 40 degrees C.
Economy, Prices and Living Standard:
Rio de Janeiro is the second most important economy for Brazil after São Paulo. It has a major marine port and an international airport, which makes it a preferred location for different industries. Food, textile, petroleum, furniture and pharmaceutical are some of the major industries in this city. Tourism is also an extremely important industry and many people rely on the steady inflow of tourists for their living.
Most people are not extremely rich and there are many sectors which are highly underdeveloped. The standard of living is average as many of Rio’s citizens are forced to live under the poverty line.
