Introducing this place:

Situated off the coast of Spain is the island town of Ibiza. This is the third largest of the Belearic islands. The largest cities of the Ibiza island are Ibiza town, Santa Eularia, and Sant Antony de portmany. This particular Spanish island attracts plenty of tourists. It is often called the white island. Towering cliffs overlook the island. This island has been declared a world heritage sight. Ibiza is well-known also for its summer club parties.

Sightseeing:

During your stay on the island, you can check out many beautiful places. Here are some of them:
  • Sant Joseph de Sa Talaia is the biggest district on the island and it offers pretty spectacular views.
  • D 'Alt Vila is the city’s heart and soul and was built in the year 1554. The walls around this particular city are the product of architect Calvi. These walls are a pretty amazing piece of architecture. They still stand tall today guarding the entire city. D’Alt vila basically means high town. You will be able to find out pretty soon why its called D’Alt Villa once you walk down the narrow and windy streets. The descent through the narrow and crowded streets is an unique experience by itself. One can find Ibicencos people clad in black all over the streets. The streets here resemble the Gothic Catalan architecture. Going through D’Alt Vila is like going through time travel.
  • The harbor of Ibiza town is a great place to be in winter. The harbor hosts the statue of 'Corsair Obelisk' - Homenaje a los Corsarios. Apparently, this person played a crucial role in the history of Ibiza.
  • Various caves are there to explore on this island. Caves C'an Marca was discovered in the year 1907 and is supposed to be 100,000 years old.
  • Remains of ancient paintings can be seen at the Ses Fontanelles Caves.
  • While you are in Ibiza, make sure that you visit the The Puig des Molins Nekropolis. This is one of the largest underground tombs in the world. It is quite unique in nature.

Things and Sports to Do:

The Spanish island town has plenty of things to offer to it’s visitors. Here’s the following:
  • Ibiza is well-known for its summer club parties. You will find many night club there and many famous DJs.
  • If you are really adventurous, then you can try out caving. Exploring one of Ibiza’s caves will take a lot of outdoor skills.
  • In order to get away from the hustle bustle of the town and go somewhere far away, head for the san carles, can joan, cala lenya and cala mastella. Besides from having exotic names, these places are remotely located.
  • It is easier to get away from the crowd if you go to the villages of Ibiza. The villages are usually less crowded.
  • One can rent villas in the island. The unique fact is that the entire island can be rented for 40000 Euros. That’s pretty cool having an entire island to yourself.
  • Ibiza also offers you spa services to it’s visitors. Some of the best spa services are offered at the following locations on the island: Grand hotel palladium. Located in Santa Eulalia, the Insotel Fenicia Prestige Thalasso Spa, provides a pretty good spa service. The island also provides the tourists with mobile spa services.

Restaurants and Shopping:

The restaurants on Ibiza Island offer Mediterranean diet to the tourists. Ibiza style fish and Spanish wine are mostly served at the restaurants that are on Ibiza. Restaurants like Pizzeria Mandolino serve pizzas, pastas and asparagus. Restaurant Stephan located in San Antonio offers an unique list of cuisines to it’s customers. Casa Ana provides it’s customers with Spanish cuisines.

Since it is an island, one may think that there may not be that many places to shop. But, the fact is the island does offer the tourists plenty of places to go shopping. One can purchase different types of items at the historic places on Ibiza. Shops in the provincial places or villages don’t usually have a fixed number of hours. The hippy markets of Ibiza display numerous items that show parts of the Ibizan culture.

People and Culture:

The island currently has about 113,908 people living on it. According to statistics, the population of Ibiza has gone up since 2007. An interesting fact about Ibiza is that there are 4000 more males than females on the island. That is quite astonishing. In the neighboring island of Formentera, there are currently 8,442 inhabitants, which is a 6.1% increase than last year (2007).

It is local custom to tip the restaurant people around 10%. Ibiza is a Catholic country. So, it is expected that while visiting the churches and other holy places, legs ad shoulders should be covered.

Geography and Climate:

Ibiza is basically a group of islands otherwise known as pine islands or pitiusas. There are over fifty islands in the Balearic chain and many of them are uninhabited. Ibiza enjoys a Mediterranean climate. The winters are milder while the summers are slightly cooler than the neighboring Majorca Island. July and August are the two hottest months of the year. During this particular time, temperatures reach 30 degrees C in the afternoons. According to the meteorological records, the lowest recorded temperature is −5 degrees C whereas, the highest ever recorded is 37 degress C.

Economy, Prices and Living Standard:

The economy of Ibiza has suffered due the century long isolation. Currently about 95% of the economy is based on the tourism industry. It is due to the clubbing scene that the economy of the island is very healthy. The currency on the island is Euro. Throughout the island shops accept major credit cards and ATMs are widely located. So, these are good signs and they are signs of a good economy.

Ibiza has become the Europe’s premiere tourist destination. After all, Ibiza has the reputation of being the party capital of Europe. If the partying doesn’t attract you then the towering cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean as well as the fabulous sunsets will. You should come here between the months of June to September. That’s when most of the families come down here. So, if you are planning your next vacation, you should come down to Ibiza.
